MUMBAI, Oct. 6 -- Guests at the Thursday night premiere of English Vinglish - Sridevi's comeback film - who waited in the foyer of the theatre for Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan to arrive, were rewarded by the expression on the superstar's face when he first caught sight of Sridevi. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped. "Kamal kar diya apne. You are looking stunning," he said, as Sridevi, who looked fabulous in a cream lace mermaid-cut outfit, blushed.
Jaya Bachchan, Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor, and director of English Vinglish Gauri Shinde, stepped back discreetly to allow the superstar and his former leading lady to chat and exchange jokes. "Any kind of compliment coming from him (Bachchan) is encouraging and inspiring," an elated Sridevi told HT Cafe the morning after the premiere. "He saw the film last week, but it was sweet of him to come and support me again last night."
Bachchan, who has a cameo in the film, has been very excited about Sridevi's comeback film, says Gauri Shinde. Chatting with us on the phone this morning, Gauri shared her own conversation with Big B before the movie was screened. "He told me that these days, the questions he is asked by his fans relate only to his birthday and to English Vinglish," Gauri told us proudly. "And he told Sri: 'More power to you women'."
Lots of industry bigwigs, especially contemporary leading ladies, were at the premiere to wish Sridevi well.
