Two years ago, director Anurag Kashyap made sharp comments against the Bachchans when the Abhishek-starrer Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey released. But things seem to have calmed down since. A few days ago, Amitabh Bachchan — to everyone’s surprise — even praised Anurag’s Gangs Of Wasseypur (GOW). And now, we can confirm that Big B and Anurag have teamed up for a docu-film to mark 100 years of Indian cinema.

Anurag and three other directors (Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee) are each making a 20-minute documentary on various aspects of the industry. Anurag’s subject deals with the impact of Amitabh Bachchan’s films on the Indian audience. The docu-film will feature movies like Zanjeer (1973), Deewar (1975), Sholay (1975), and others. “Anurag has met and shot with Mr Bachchan. There was no discomfort between them. In fact, they discussed films in detail. Anurag has grown up watching his work,” says an insider.

A while ago, Big B had gone all out to praise GOW. “Indian cinema at its best, honest, stark and as painfully real as possible. For one that has been born and lived a major portion of his life in almost similar environment, or at least exposed to it to some degree, I found so much that I could well relate to (sic),” Bachchan had written on his blog. Anurag was surprised by Bachchan’s praise and said: “We have not had the best of relationships, par unhone tareef ki hai meri movie ki. Bahut badi baat hai bhai (He’s praised my film. It is a big deal).”
When contacted, Anurag says, “I have wrapped up the docu-film on the impact Amitabh Bachchan’s films have had on us. It was great meeting him.” Did past friction affect him? “Whatever happened is a thing of the past. There’s no point talking about it now.”

What started the quarrel
Around the release of KHJJS, Anurag apparently slammed Big B for sabotaging Bedabrata Pain’s film Chittagong (both films revolved around the uprising). He wrote on Facebook, “Producers decided to sit on it, because of a phone call from someone, because that someone was trying desperately to save his son’s career... welcome to Bollywood, where whose son you are outshines all the hard work and passion and potential and talent. KHJJS came and went, now what? (sic)”
