After delivering a stupendous performance in No One Killed Jessica, Rani Mukherjee returns with Anurag Kashyap's Aiyyaa. Does she impress?
Well, the actress is seen in a fresh avatar as a Marathi girl but if we go by the promo, she could have avoided overacting in some sequences. "Ye ho kya raha hai meri zindagi ke sath," she yells in a dramatic tone with a even more dramatic expression in one scene.
There seems to be no punch in the dialogues and only the characters find them funny. Sample this:
Madhav's dad: Ab hum Madhav aur Meenakshi ke liye ek double bed banwa rahe hain. Ab tak to Madhav akela hi single bed par sota tha. Ab to .. ha ha ha
Meenakshi's aai: ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
The story is about a Marathi girl played by Rani Mukerji falling in love with a Malayali artist played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. It has the backdrop of a West-South cultural clash. The lead female protagonist woos the stranger she desires as he smells good.
Considering the film is coming from Anurag Kashyap's stable (he's written the story and is co-producing it), the film might be worth watching afterall.
