Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor turn mafia men!

By Hindustan Times

Actor Sanjay Dutt played a feared gangster in Vaastav (1999), as did actors Vivek Oberoi and Ajay Devgn in Company (2002). More recently, Ajay’s character in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010) was based on Haji Mastan, while Akshay Kumar’s character in its sequel is based on Dawood Ibrahim. Now, it’s time for two of Bollywood’s new talent — actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor to take on similar roles.

In filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar’s (he directed Mere Brother Ki Dulhan in (2011) next, titled, Gunday, Arjun and Ranveer will be seen as “powerful black-marketing mafia guys,” according to a source. The film is apparently set in one of the most turbulent periods in the history of Kolkata, starting in 1971 and continuing through that decade. “Ali’s film will show the journey of Bikram and Bala (Ranveer and Arjun) from small-time wagon breakers and coal thieves to powerful mafia leaders. Adi (producer Aditya Chopra) and Ali have settled on Gunday as the title,” adds the source.

The recent rumours that the film has a love triangle are unfounded. It’s believed, however, that there is an overt professional rivalry between the two actors. “In the film, though, the two will be inseparable, which makes their stories legendary. The name Gunday is then given by the people,” says the source. “It will show both Arjun and Ranveer in a completely different light,” says the film’s spokesperson.
