Madhur Bhandarkar unhappy with bar on ‘A’ films on TV

By Hindustan Times

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is disappointed with the Censor Board’s decision to ban screening of adult films on television. He feels the producers will lose a lot of money due to this. “This is wrong as the major part of the revenue we get is from the satellite channels. Moreover, we can’t make
all the movies with U/A or U certificate,” says Bhandarkar. The filmmaker adds that the Film & Television Producers Guild of India is already working on the modalities. “I’m sure it will be resolved very soon,” he says.

Bhandarkar’s film Heroine (releasing on September 21), too has got an ‘A’ certificate. It delves into the behind-the-scenes life of a female actor in the Indian film industry, and stars actors Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda.

Ask Kapoor about the Censor Board’s decision, and she says: “It’s wrong because every film is a different kind of film. We make different genres of films, with different directors. Producers invest because they feel that the film has something,” she says. “For me there’s nothing like an A or U/A film certificate. You switch to other channels like Star World and Star Movies and they have wild scenes too,” adds Kapoor.
