Last year, Chillar Party created immense buzz — partly thanks to co-producer Salman Khan — when it won a National Award for the Best Children’s Film. Now, the film’s producers have finally decided to go ahead with the sequel, but without one of the co-directors, Vikas Bahl. An industry
insider confirms, “The makers are already working on the script. But since Vikas is busy with several other things, including his solo directorial debut (Queen), he won’t be involved. The sequel is definitely in motion, but right now, it’s too early for other details.”
Interestingly, Salman — who backed the film under his banner, Salman Khan Being Human Productions — is likely to be involved with the sequel too.
“It’s very close to Salman’s heart. Once the script is ready, the makers will take the final draft to him for an approval of sorts,” says the insider. When contacted, Vikas confirms that he is not part of the second film: “Personally, I am not ready with the script, so I won’t be attached. Plus I will be busy with Queen. I really don’t know whether UTV is going ahead with the sequel or if Nitesh (Tiwari, co-director) is directing it.”
Although it is not clear whether Nitesh will direct the film, it is believed that he has bagged the deal.
Of late, a number of rumours have been doing the rounds in relation to the sequel. One report stated that since UTV is focusing on other projects, Salman has decided to go ahead with the sequel, while another one suggested that the film has been put on hold since all eight children from the cast have outgrown the script.
Vikas, on his part, is still working on the script of his next, which is apparently a chick flick. It stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role of a Delhi girl from Lajpat Nagar. Shooting is set to begin after August.
