The makers of Love Aaj Kal (2009) launched the first promo of their new production Cocktail, starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, on YouTube midnight on Sunday. The first look promos will be exclusive online, followed by invites to a Cocktail party via Facebook, and promotions on Twitter as well. After making its presence felt online, the makers will release theatrical and TV promos on June 1.
A source from the production house, says, “The idea is to create maximum buzz within the online community as their reaction is instantaneous. We wanted to give certain exclusivity online and have special plans for TV promotions as well.”
Co-producer of Illumanti films, Dinesh Vijan explains, “The Internet is an uncensored forum that allows audiences to react truthfully. We want to interact with the youth, have them re-cut our promos online and make their own versions of our posters. We will build an aggressive online approach. Cocktail is theirs (the youth’s) as it’s hip and contemporary.”
Cocktail is written by Imtiaz Ali and directed by Homi Adajania. The story of three friends stars Saif as Delhi lad Gautam, Deepika Padukone as Veronica, who every guy likes, and newbie Diana Penty — the girl guys want to take home to meet their mothers.
The source adds, “Pritam has scored eight tracks for the film. They’re funky but also have some rooted soulful music. The promo has a cool guitar piece, including a song called Tumhi Ho Bandhu, Sakha Tumhi Ho. The visuals are fresh and the energy of the trio in the cast is exciting. Cocktail is about friendship, lust and love but with a heart.”
