Sanjay’s SFL donates to charity

By Hindustan Times

Cricket and Bollywood never fail to whip up a heady mix. In the latest twist, icons from two fields are coming together for a philanthropic reason. As the mixed martial arts event Super Fight League (SFL) gears up for its Delhi outing, owners Sanjay Dutt and Raj Kundra have decided to donate the
proceeds to ex-cricketer Kapil Dev’s organisation, Khushii.

“Sanju and I have decided that SFL will hold an annual event every year, the proceeds of which will go towards charity. This year, we have chosen Kapilji’s Khushi,” confirms Kundra.

They are confident of raising around Rs. 1 crore for the charity, which runs three schools in Delhi and provides education, midday meals and clothing to the underprivileged. “Still, we are keeping our fingers crossed. A lot will depend on how deep people are willing to dig into their pockets for the event, after-party and auctions,” says Kundra, who has already had SFL events in Mumbai and Chandigarh.

Kapil, who had captained the 1983 cricket World Cup-winning squad, will be the chief guest at the SFL event in Delhi. The decision was taken jointly with Dutt, adds Kundra. “Without Sanju, I don’t take any decision. I called him up and asked if he was okay with it. And he said, ‘It’s a noble idea, so let’s go ahead. Sanju is a big philanthropist though he doesn’t talk about it,” adds Kundra.

‘Shilpa thinks Mallika is item queen’
When SFL kicked off in Mumbai, Bipasha Basu added chutzpah to the event. Then Malaika Arora Khan was the headlining performer in Chandigarh. And now, Mallika Sherawat has been roped in for SFL’s Delhi event. “I asked Shilpa who would be apt for the final event. She said that the item queen would have to be Mallika,” says Kundra with a laugh. “Since Mallika is from Haryana, she is loved in Delhi. I hope her sex appeal pulls in more crowd,” he adds.
