In Sanjay Gupta’s just-launched Shootout At Wadala, John Abraham plays gangster Manohar Arjuna Surve, better known as Manya. Tusshar plays his trusted lieutenant Sheikh Munir from the Dharavi slums. “They met in jail and once out, they took on Dawood Ibrahim, thus cementing their place in the Mumbai underworld. They carried off several successful heists till Manya was gunned down by the police,” explains Tusshar.
Contrary to rumours, the actor insists that the film is a prequel and not a sequel to Sanjay’s earlier film, Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007). “It revolves around the first ever police encounter in Mumbai that took place in 1982 — almost a decade before the Lokhandwala shootout,” he explains.
Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai (2010) revolved around the Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim rivalry. Now, the upcoming Shootout At Wadala and the sequel to Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai will also have references to Dawood. Tusshar smiles, “It’s a coincidence, but Dawood should be happy.”
