Sheila Ki Jawani... and Munni Badnaam Hui... rank among popular dance tracks of all time, but that doesn’t stopped people — including filmmakers — from taking dig dig, albeit light-heartedly, at them. Joining the fray are London Paris New York (LPNY) makers, who seem to have done exactly
this in their upcoming rom-com. The film will see Rockstar actor Aditi Rao Hydari take on Munni (Malaika) and Sheila (Katrina).
In Anu Menon’s film, Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari have a scene in which the Pakistani actor, who plays a filmmaker, teases Aditi. He tells her that she has become more “glamourous and sexy” since their last meeting. In return, she uses Sheila and Munni to get back at him.
“We play a completely different yet very similar people. And so, the friendly banter between us continues throughout the film. The Munni and Sheila bit comes when Ali’s character Nikhil meets mine (Lalitha) in New York. Lalitha has become a bit classy and modern since their last meeting, and Nikhil teases her about looking well turned out. At this time, Lalitha shoots back saying that ‘you filmmakers don’t even think twice about kids watching how Sheila jawaan hui or Munni Badnaam Hui,”says Aditi.
Ask Aditi if she fears someone taking offence to her friendly dialogue, and she says, “I don’t think so. It’s just a very friendly and light-hearted banter between two characters.”
Right now Aditi and the LPNY team is “on the roads” to promote the film. She says, “While making the film too, we had great fun. The most important thing is that our makers are satisfied with the result. In fact, Goldie (Behl) told us that after LPNY, he wants similar experiences on all his films.”
