Ekk Deewana Tha director Gautham Menon reveals that the screenplay of his film was developed around the music that Oscar winner AR Rahman composed for it. The film is the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010). “I had the story and screenplay ready. It’s my first film be with Rahman and he was keen to give the music and actually gave more songs than the film required. Listening to the songs, I built a fresh screenplay around them,” says Menon.
Ask him about his choice for the protagonist, and Menon says, “I wanted Prateik because we needed a fresh face for the film. The protagonist here is a bit aggressive. I have changed the character a bit to suit Prateik’s image, since he is very vulnerable and endearing,” says Menon.
