Malaika: 'There can't be another Munni...'
By Hindustan Times
Mumbai, Dec. 1 -- Actor-dancer and reality show judge, Malaika Arora Khan has just shot an item number for Sajid Khan's Housefull 2, and admits she'd love to do another one in Dabangg 2, which goes on the floors in March next year. 'Munni badnaam hui...', which she grooved to in last year's Dabangg, remains popular even today, and its success was followed by top actors like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat, all agreeing to do similar 'item songs'.
Ask Malaika about the trend she apparently restarted and she says, "It feels nice that people acknowledge the fact that my song was followed up by so many hit numbers. But frankly, while filming 'Munni...' I didn't think it would become such a rage. There was a requirement in the movie and Arbaaz (husband, producer Arbaaz Khan) just told me to do it. I didn't ask any further."
She adds, "Last time, I went all out to support Arbaaz because it was our debut production. This time, he's directing as well. So, apart from sharing production responsibilities, I'm game for a song and dance too. It's too early to comment on what kind of song it could be, but the day Arbaaz tells me to face the camera, I will, without a question."
However, Malaika is clear that she will never repeat 'Munni...' in her career: "There can be different songs all the time, but if you think that with Sajid's film or in any other subsequent projects, I'm going to repeat my performance, then I'm sorry. I'm clear, there can't be another Munni," she asserts, adding, "The song Sajid wanted me to shoot was such an impromptu thing. Since Farah (Farah Khan) was choreographing it, I didn't have to worry. Our energies work in tandem. She just guided me on the sets and we wrapped up in no time. It's a spunky number, very unlike what I have done before."
For now, the actor will be judging dancers mentored by Saroj Khan on her show Nachle Ve on Imagine. When asked who her own critic is, Malaika giggles, "It's Helen aunty. I've picked up the trend of dance numbers where she left off. And whenever she watches me perform, she's the first to pass her verdict. She even advises me on costumes, hairdo and some movements on floor. She's the ultimate dancing queen in Bollywood. And if she's my critic, you know that sky is the limit for me."
