The second season of Harley Davidson Rock Riders four-city tour came to a rocking end on Saturday, October 1 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Delhi. The finale looked like a theme party featuring rock, bikes and babes. While only one-fourth of the audience comprised of hardcore rock fanatics,
the majority was drawn by the lure of the Harley Davidson bikes on display.
The event kick started on May 5 in Mumbai (Blue Frog), followed by June 9 in Delhi (F Bar & Lounge), July 7 in Bangalore (Kyra) and August 12 in Hyderabad (Bottles & Chimney).
While the men were busy drooling over speed beasts, the women, in their LBD's, tried their best to enjoy the dose of heavy rock. It was one of the few rock events which saw an equal number of both the sexes in the audience, as someone wise has said, 'Where there are bikes, there will be babes.'
Apart from the tattoo, guitars and bikes, the grand finale saw performances by top Indian rock bands such as Split, The Circus, Half Step Down and Parikrama. The night opened with performances by rock bands Split and The Circus, which got the crowd in the mood. After some major guitar smashing, Delhi rock band Half Step Down burst through the floor in a whirl of guitar riffs, drum rolls and screams before launching into some of their popular songs.
In between the performances, the host created frenzy as he threw around Sennheiser headphones and gave away Zippo lighters, the highlight being a guy winning the Gibson SG, courtesy of Gibson Guitar Corp, the official guitar partner for the Harley Rock Riders Tour.
Next up was Parikrama and even before the band took the stage, the overwhelmingly ignorant audience was primed at its ear-splitting decibel best. One of the oldest bands, it didn't disappoint and got the audience grooving with hit tracks like Tears Of A Wizard, There's Light and Whiskey Blues.
Subir Malik, keyboardist and one of the founding members of the band, revealed the mantra of getting the audience in the mood, "Before every show, we check out the kind of audience. Today, 20% of the people are here for the music and 80% for Harley Davidson, so we have a set list of our popular tracks. If we're playing for a group of corporate guys, then we play more covers and fewer originals so that the audience has a great time. Today, the energy is awesome and we're having a really good time."
