Mithun's and Bappi Lahiri's sons team up to create history

By Subhash K. Jha

Mumbai, Jan 18 (IANS) GenNext has come of age. Their fathers rocked the film industry in the 1980s and now Mithun Chakraborty's son Mimoh and Bappi Lahiri's son Bappa have teamed up for an item song in "Jimmy".

Shooting this item song titled "Marhabba yeh rab mera rooth gaya" was a journey in time for Mimoh.

"The song was choreographed by Nadeem Khan, who has choreographed several of my father's songs and it was composed by Bappa Lahiri, Bappi Lahiri's son. When I remember all the songs that Bappi Lahiri and my dad teamed up to create history, I get goosebumps. In fact, my debut film's title 'Jimmy' comes from a chartbuster composed by Bappi Lahiri for dad," Mimoh told IANS.

Bappa and Mimoh are buddies.

"And, hopefully, some of our dads' magic has rubbed off on both of us," said Mimoh as he waits nervously for D-Day.

Suniel Shetty, who has signed Mimoh for "Loot", thinks the star son dances like a dream.

Mimoh, whose debut film "Jimmy" releases in February, proved he had inherited his dancing skills from his father when he danced for 50 days for one song sequence in the film.

The thought of refurbishing and pepping up Mimoh's debut film with a lavish item song came from the concerned father Mithun himself. When Mithun saw the finished product with his old friend Raj Sippy, he thought something else needed to be added to the product, hence the item song.

Mimoh describes "Marhabba yeh rab mera rooth gaya" as the most exhilarating start any newcomer can hope for.

"I don't know if I dance half as well as Anna sir (Suniel) or my dad thinks. But the number which we rehearsed and shot over a stretch of 50 days just made me feel so proud to be where I was and of my dad's legacy that I'm carrying forward," Mimoh said.

While Mimoh has one of Bollywood's abiding stars as a guiding light at home, he gets to match strides with another dancing star in his two post-debut films.

"Govinda-ji, whom I hero worship, along with my dad is my co-star in my next two films - Dharmesh Darshan's untitled and Suneil sir's 'Loot'. And I've to dance with Govinda-ji in both! I guess more than my debut film, I've reason to be nervous about what comes afterwards."

Incidentally, Mimoh's co-star in Dharmesh Darshan's film is Hansika Motwani, who was supposed to make her debut two years ago.

"I guess it's a small world, even if it's show-world," said Mimoh.
