Sajid-Wajid: 'Munni is a stale story now'

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, June 2 -- Sajid-Wajid are on a high. Their score for Dabbang bagged them every music award this year, and now the film has won a National Award too. The duo can't wait to get started on the sequel. "We already have the score for Dabangg 2 ready in our heads. 'Munni...' is a stale story now, just wait and see what we have in store," says Sajid.

The composers have other aces up their sleeves, including Kunal Kohli's Janam Janam Ka Saath Hamara Tumhara that's just gone on the floors. "We've recorded four songs, they are unbelievable!" exclaims Sajid without the slightest bit of modesty. "But the real blockbuster will be Housefull 2. You will laugh your guts out as you listen to the songs."

Another Akshay Kumar movie that has the music directors all excited is Rowdy Rathore that Prabhu Devaa is directing for Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Can we expect a Wanted in the SLB style? That draws a guffaw from Sajid, "Well, it's not the usual Sanjay bhai kind of score, a la Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas or Saawariya. We told him to just sit and enjoy the different beats. And he did, during the one sitting we had."

Sajid admits that they would have loved the challenge of creating 20 compositions for the movie but have to be content with half-a-dozen. "Prabhu sir has already selected a couple. He looks straight and walks straight." Is that a line from Rowdy Rathore? "No!" Sajid laugh. "It's a line that best describes Prabhu Devaa who knows exactly what he wants."

So is Rowdy Rathore going to be another Wanted or Dabangg? "It's going to be a one-of-its-kind, Rowdy Rathore," the music director retorts. "We don't copy our backlog but like to invent something every time."

They landed the movie only because first choice of composer, Pritam, was over-committed. Sajid shrugs nonchalantly, "These things don't affect us. If a film is destined for you, you'll get it. Period. And when it does, we've learnt from our mentor, Big Boss Salman Khan, to give it something extra. In Partner we promised to make Govinda groove to our tune like a cool dude, and he did, even as 'Do you wanna partner?...' plays now. This time we are going to make Akshay swing to some 'hardcrore' dance tracks. Get ready for some action!"
