Dekh Video Dekh: Lights, camera, videos!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, March 6 -- To combat competition from Sony Entertainment's Comedy Circus and Star Plus' Comedy Ka Maha Muqabla, Colors is now armed with Dekh Video Dekh.

I Am Productions, the reality TV show wing of Ramanand Sagar's company, is working on the show. The alleged Indian spin-off of popular shows, America's Funniest Home Videos and Australia's Funniest Home Videos, will be a 30-minute capsule with funny 'desi' home videos sent in by viewers, mixed with comic voice-overs, replete with one-liners. The most common clips feature slapstick comedy ranging from accidents to funny pets, and kiddie moments to practical jokes. Both the Australian and the American concepts are based on the Japanese show Fun TV With Kato-chan And Ken-chan.

America's Funniest Home Videos, also watched in India, debuted as a regular weekly series in the 1990s. Bob Saget hosted it for the first eight seasons, followed by John Fugelsang, Daisy Fuentes and Tom Bergeron.

Bergeron has been anchoring the show since 2001, and is the longest serving host of the show that entered its 21st season last year.

"We all shoot videos of our babies walking for the first time, kids playing around the house, birthday parties, wedding rituals, domestic mishaps or even random ones of visitors. Instead of flooding YouTube with those funny audio-visuals, viewers can now send them to us and we'll run it on the show," says Ashvini Yardi, head of programming, Colors.

One interesting element in the Indian version will be some behind-the-scenes moments between daily soap stars shot at shooting locations. The show is expected to air on weekends, starting mid-February.

Comedian Sunil Grover will anchor the show. The actor is currently heard on the radio as the joke-book reader Sudarshan or Sud. "The promos should be on air soon. It's actually India's slice-of-life reality show. Nothing gets more real! I don't know if I'll be allowed to give out some of my funny videos, but everyone else is invited," says Grover.
