Frenzy in Kerala village over Oscar winner Pookutty's arrival
Thiruvananthapuram, March 5 (IANS) A grand welcome awaits Oscar winner Resul Pookutty, who will arrive here Friday. A cavalcade of over 100 vehicles will take him to his village, where a reception will be hosted in his honour - the first of a series of felicitation events in Kerala for the Mumbai-based sound technician.
"Every villager is excited about Resul coming here. More than 150 vehicles will be at the airport to bring him home," Pookutty's brother Byju P.T. told IANS.
Pookutty will travel to Villakkupara village, about 50 km from here, in a open-top vehicle so that he can greet cheering fans on the way.
"A reception is being organised for Resul in the village. It will be attended by half a dozen ministers and all villagers," said Byju.
Pookutty, who won the sound mixing Oscar for "Slumdog Millionaire", will be in Kerala till March 13. During this period, he will attend several events across the state.
A programme in his honour will be held at MSM College in Kayamkulam, from where he graduated.
Various Malayalam film industry bodies have also joined hands to give him a rousing reception at Kochi.
He will also travel to Trissur and Kozhikode for public events.
Pookutty was the youngest of eight children and had a passion for films right from his young days. His father was keen that he become a doctor, but Resul failed the medical entrance examinations and went on to pursue his film industry dreams after studying at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. He also has a degree in law.
