In 1985, Sunny Deol wonderfully portrayed the character of an angsty young man in his action film, Arjun. Twenty-seven years later, actor Nikhil Dwivedi, will play a role reminiscent of Sunny’s character in the cult hit. Nikhil, however, insists that his forthcoming movie is not a remake,
but a loosely based adaptation of the original Arjun. “Let me clarify, my film is not a remake of Arjun. That film is brilliant and we have no illusion that we can do a better job making it.

Sunny was exceptional in that film and if we were remaking it, I would have had a tough time thinking ‘How do I do better than that?” says the actor whose character in the film will be called Arjun Malvankar, like in the original.

Ask Nikhil if he has met Sunny yet and he smiles saying, “Not yet. But I am a big fan! He has been in the industry for 30 long years, which speaks volumes about his talent and success. When we get closer to the film’s shooting, I would definitely love to meet him.”

Although the Shor In The City (2011) actor claims that his film is an adaptation, he admits there will be a lot of references to the original Arjun. “That is because issues such as unemployment, disgruntled youth and the feeling of dissatisfaction with the system, continue to exist in the society,” he says, adding, “I am also aware of the fact that people will try to draw certain comparisons, but I don’t think I can avoid that.”

Nikhil will be seen next in Tamanchey, an intense love story of two outlaws. The film will see him play a petty criminal from eastern UP, while Richa Chaddha, who will soon be seen in Gangs of Wasseypur, will play the part of a slick, city girl. “People will be surprised by the way I look and talk in the film. I have worked really hard on dialect and other nuances,” says the actor.
