And the film director who gets the maximum votes from our judges is...
‘Aamir looks only at the script, nothing else’
What’s the best way to get Aamir Khan to say yes to your next film? Present him with a fabulous script, that’s all. “Honestly, I don’t think he looks at anything else!” says director Reema Kagti, best known for writing and directing the critically acclaimed Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. in 2007, her debut feature. And while Honeymoon… was a light-hearted comedy, the script this time around, is a suspense drama, something that Aamir has never done before. “But the moment Zoya (Akhtar, who co-wrote the script) and I showed it to him, he liked it,” says Kagti.
After eight years as assistant to directors like Farhan Akhtar (Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya), Ashutosh Gowarikar (Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India) and Mira Nair (Vanity Fair), Kagti is having a ball realising her own vision. “Filmmaking is a very male-dominated industry. I think the fact that there are more and more women directors making films is a reflection of the changing reality of our times, where women work with men in every field. I am working hard and I hope to live up to the expectations.”
