New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) A new music album 'Remembering Mahatma Gandhi' was launched here Thursday by Dr. Karan Singh, MP and president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to honour the father of the nation on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Oct 2.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) announced in May that Oct 2 will also be observed as the International Day of Non-Violence.
"Remembering Mahatma Gandhi is a delightful portrait of Bapu's favourite bhajans and of songs associated with our national identity. We believe this music album will resonate with every Indian, young or old," said, Mukul Kansal, General Manager, Saregama India Ltd, India's foremost music, who brought out the album.Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, who have sung and played sarod in the album, gave a mesmerizing performance at the launch of the album.
Ganghiji's favourite hymns like "Vaishnav Jan To", "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram", and the national song "Vande Maataram" are featured in the album in present day context.
"I am really happy to get a chance to be associated with the symbol of peace and compassion - Mahatma Gandhi. This album is my tribute to him on the occasion of Non Violence Day," said Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
The album represents an effort to bring Gandhi closer to the youth.
