Mumbai, Nov. 9 -- The Men in Blue -especially MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh -have always been popular with Bollywood glitterati. And their popularity came to fore again when debutant director Rohit Dhawan was shooting the title song of his film, Desi Boyz.
Since the song is about women fantasising about Indian men, makers wanted to make a connection with the country's wildly popular cricketers too. As Rohit and his creative team were deciding on which cricketers to choose, actors Akshay Kumar and John Abraham insisted on portraying their best friends Yuvraj and Dhoni respectively.
"Akshay and John are buddies with Yuvraj and Dhoni. And since the song required them to wear cricketers' outfits, they had a chat with Rohit about wearing jerseys with Yuvraj and Dhoni's names printed on it," says a unit member of the film.
When contacted, producer Krishika Lulla of Eros confirms, saying, "John and Dhoni are close friends, and so are Akshay and Yuvraj. While shooting for the song, the two decided to sport jerseys with the names of their favourite cricketers. And we are happy with the results."
Directed by David Dhawan's elder son, Rohit, the comic caper also stars Deepika Padukone and Chitrangda Singh. The movie has been largely shot in the UK and is set to release on November 25.
