New Delhi, May 22 -- In 2011, Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu won hearts with its story. As its sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns (TWMR), hits theatres today (May 22), lead actors Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan share their take on why the meaning of love is different for everyone.
"I feel it's about respecting someone enough to give them the freedom to be free, and not feel suffocated in your company; and to feel like their life is heading towards something more beautiful," says Madhavan.
On the other hand, Kangana says she has "a very spiritual sort of understanding of love". She adds, "It's the force between one atom and another. There are many forms and versions of love."
And do unconventional marriages, like the one shown in TWMR work? Madhavan feels it takes hard work. "Back in the day, everything seemed unconventional as people were matched with kundalis. But more than that, it was the way society was formed, wherein marriages were forced to work. No marriage is smooth, but at the end of the day, working hard on it is well worth the effort."
Kangana adds that the beauty of the film lies in the differences between the protagonists - Tanu and Manu. "In TWMR, she is shown to be bored of him, and he can't handle her. They have their differences, but can love conquer them? That's something intangible between two people, which goes beyond ideologies, religion, etc. It's the force that is driving the world, and that's what the film is about," she says.
For audiences who have not watched Tanu Weds Manu (2011), the sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, will be just as enjoyable.
Eros International & Colour Yellow Productions' Tanu Weds Manu Returns is scheduled to release on May 22, 2015.
