Mumbai, Nov. 3 -- Director Abhishek Sharma's upcoming film, The Shaukeens, will see Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor and Piyush Mishra's characters ludicrously attempting to woo Ahana, played by Lisa Haydon.
"We have three senior actors as the protagonists. In the film, we have made them do everything that seniors in Bollywood films aren't supposed to do," says Abhishek.
Producer Murad Khetani adds, "Lisa's character is unlike anything you've seen before. Her child-like innocence combined with her sex appeal is what highlights her quirky character."
However it is Akshay Kumar, who plays the most eccentric character in the film. "So, here we had this huge Bollywood superstar in the form of Akshay who was playing himself, and we decided to just change him around. The industry's fittest actor is playing an alcoholic. Not just that, he's shown to be having anger management issues too - it's (the film) that quirky in nature," says Abhishek, laughing.
The film shirks cliches and shows senior men being young at heart. One of the film's writers, Tigmanshu Dhulia explains, "If you want to do something path-breaking, you have to break the clutter. Don't underestimate the audience. Being quirky is what differentiates The Shaukeens from the rest. It's funny, but it's truly the youngest film I've written." The Shaukeens, produced by Murad Khetani, Cape Of Good Films and Ashwin Varde releases on November 7.
