Bollywood Movies Box Office figures now tamper proof?

Mumbai, Dec. 19 -- For some time now, the accuracy and authenticity of Bollywood movies' box-office figures have been under some doubt. In fact, Aamir Khan, in the recent past, has even raised the issue of fudged numbers released by filmmakers.

Now, the actor and his latest film's makers, director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, have decided to go for a clear record.

The trio has roped in a global media measurement and research company, a well-known agency famous for calculating box-office figures of Hollywood films, for their latest release. "In fact, it will be the first film in India to be tracked by the company. Aamir is very clear that he wants the accurate figures to be released in public," says an insider.

Recently at the HT Leadership Summit in Delhi, Aamir had said, "Nowadays, there's so much fudging of numbers. I asked a group of journalists, 'Why do you print such numbers? You don't even know whether I am speaking the truth. Ask me for Daily Collection Reports (DCR). If my film has made ' 200 crore, I should show it to you on DCR.' But none of that happens."

Confirming the news, Arturo Guillen, VP (Europe, Middle East and Africa) of the global agency, says, "We trust the world will get to appreciate the true potential of Indian cinema as much as Indian industry gets to realise its own potential through the tools that our agency has created."
