Mumbai, May 14 -- Shoojit Sircar's Piku has set the box-office cash registers ringing. It has garnered the biggest international opening for a Hindi film this year with a collection of $2.3 million ('14.8 crore).
Its opening weekend figures in India also add up to an impressive '25.22 crore. Shoojit says, "It's overwhelming to see the response from audiences across the globe. It was great teamwork that paid off."
The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. Sneha Rajani, deputy president and head, MSM Motion Pictures, says, "Piku has shown yet again that content is king. We are pleased with its success worldwide, which we hope will continue in the weeks to come."
The makers have already recovered the cost of making the film, and collections have been consistent throughout the week. Following Friday's collection of '5.32 cr, earnings for the subsequent days have also been at par.
