Phillauri Music Review

By Tulsi, News Network

An outcome of Anushka’s second production, Phillauri is an interesting rom-com film released on March 24th.

The film has Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma in the lead roles, where Anushka plays a ghost of a heart-broken girl who was madly in love with Diljit Dosanjh, but marries Suraj in her ghost form as she lives in the tree that Suraj got married to in order to shoo away all evil before getting married to the love of his life.

With a rib-tickling complicated plot, this film is surely one of the most looked-forward-to movies this year. The album is as interesting as the plot of the movie.

1. Dum Dum
The album starts off in the beautiful khets of Punjab, with flying birds and dupattas, lots of eye contact and shy reciprocation of love. Thought I don’t like the song too much, it surely is sung well by Romy, and the video is adorable. Diljit and Anushka’s chemistry is refreshing and beautiful, and I love the folk feel of their characters and setting. There is one more Punjabi version of this, as well a Reprise one sung by Diljit (which I total love).

2. Whats Up
In the pumped up Punjabi voice of Mika Singh and the lovely Jasleen Royal, this track is a fun wedding song of all the drama that happens in the movie. With some “whats up” and “bottoms up”, this track is surely to be added to any wedding song list!

3. Sahiba
In the voice of Romy and Pawni Pandey, this heart-breaking number is soulful and how. This is definitely the most popular track of the movie, and for all the right reasons. Close your eyes and get lost into the world of old-school romance, because that’s exactly where it will take you.

4. Naughty Billo
Straight out of a Punjabi folktale and directly taken to a club, this “Funkjabi” (says Anushka) track has every reason to be awesome. The transition has been done really well, and the song surely makes me dance a little even on a dull day. Diljit and Anushka make charming village folks as well as super-sexy party people! Their moves are okay, but their energy and attitude are at its best! Besides the hatke video, what makes this song so cool? Because this song is sung by Diljit Dosanjh, along with Nakash Aziz and Shilpi Paul, and Anushka Sharma raps away to their tunes! From what the song looks like, we think it’s part of the movie credits.

5. Bajaake Tumba
Once again in Romy’S voice, along with Shehnaz Akhtar, this is yet another Punjabi folklore that will make you shake a leg full Punjabi-style.

6. Din Shagna Da
Jasleen Royal has again lent her voice for this lovely vidaay track, and a quite famous one that too. It was first heard in The Wedding Story, and is still as heart-wrenching as then. This number will love forever.

A truly unique music album that may not be your regular hear on the radio, but surely will be remembered. It’s a Punjabi musical feast!
