Mumbai, Feb. 13 -- Sampat Pal, a women's rights activist from UP, has been in the limelight for quite some time now. Her story came to the fore mainly when director Soumik Sen announced his film, Gulaab Gang, which is based on her life. At the same time, another film - a documentary titled Gulabi Gang - was in the news as it too dealt with the same subject. Directed by Nistha Jain, the film will release on February 21.
Before it opens to the public, Kiran Rao has decided to host a screening of the film for her peers in the industry. The event will be held at a suburban theatre tonight (February 13).
A source close to Kiran says, "The guest list includes names like Rajkumar Hirani, Gauri Shinde, Vinod Chopra, Reema Kagti, Prasoon Joshi and a few others."
When contacted, Kiran confirmed the development. "I'm having a screening for a few friends who I am hoping will be as moved as I was by it," she says, adding, "Gulabi Gang is not just a really good film, I think it's a really important film, and so I wanted to help it gain some attention within the film industry and also in the public space.
