Cine-goers will get to see more of Madhuri Dixit than they anticipated this week. The trailer of her March release, Gulaab Gang, is going to be attached to Dedh Ishqiya, which will hit theatres this Friday (January 10).
Confirming the development, Gulaab Gang producer Anubhav Sinha tells us, "We had to attach the trailer to Dedh Ishqiya as it’s perfectly placed two months before its release. Vishal (Bhardwaj; producer) is a friend and we took this decision mutually. We did suspect that people would assume it’s because of the Madhuri connection, but it wasn’t decided on those lines."
Gulaab Gang is supposedly inspired by a group of women activists who are known as the Gulabi Gang, in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
On the other hand, director Abhishek Chaubey’s film follows his 2010 hit, Ishqiya. Protagonists of the film, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, will romance Madhuri and Huma Qureshi this time.
Playing down comparisons between the films, Anubhav says, "Ours is about the clash between Madhuri and Juhi Chawla’s characters, while Abhishek’s film is a franchise. There’s no similarity."
Further justifying the attachment of the trailer, he adds, "It was all about the timing. We couldn’t release it before January 10 as Dhoom:3 was coming, and the promo would’ve gotten lost. We can’t attach it to Jai Ho, after which February is too late, so it all fell into place."
