New Delhi, Jan. 14 -- Colourful decorations, and the air filled with cheers of the students - the campus of Ramjas College, Delhi University, was no less than a carnival as the college held celebrations to mark the upcoming centennial anniversary.
If the cheers could get any louder, they did with the presence of cricketer Gautam Gambhir, wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat.
"Bahut accha lag raha hai yaha aa ke, apne school college ke dino ke baad main ab college aayi hu. I'm where I'm due to my father's hard work. Never shy away from working hard for anything that you want in life. Go for it with everything that you have," said Geeta as she addressed the crowd. Talking about women empowerment, Babita said, "We (women) are no less than men. If we can be presidents and prime ministers, we can be wrestlers, too. Be whoever you want to be."
Gambhir said, "It's great to be back here, for I'm an alumnus of Hindu college." The students presented Kathakali and Bhangra and students enjoyed aerobics, zumba, yoga.
An inter college invitational tournament championship too was held. Rahul Sahu, a Hans Raj College student said, "I'm participating in the archery competition. I wish they'd do it in Hans Raj College." White and blue balloons were released in the air to mark peace and unity.
