Mumbai, Jan. 23 -- Bhushan Kumar, who is known for producing some of the biggest musical hits of Bollywood, is now entering uncharted territory with the film, Baby. The action thriller, starring Akshay Kumar, has only one theme song, and is touted to redefine the action genre in the industry.
The producer says one narration was enough to get him on board. "We have produced romantic films which are high on music recall. But when I heard the script of Baby, it was clear the film needed no songs. The day I heard the narration, I knew I had to be on board as a producer," says the music baron, adding, "The action sequences, the sudden twists and thrills will keep the audience on the edge."
Then again, backing a variety of genres isn't new for Kumar's banner, which has also produced films such as Creature 3D (2014), Bhoothnath Returns (2014), and Hate Story 2 (2014). "It's always good to try out different things, isn't it?" he says, adding that the combination of Akshay and Neeraj Pandey, who directed Special 26 (2013), is yet another factor that made him produce the film. "Neeraj, Akshay and the ensemble cast are added bonuses," he says.
Gulshan Kumar presents Baby - a Neeraj Pandey film, a Crouching Tiger and Friday Filmworks production, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Shital Bhatia, Cape of Good Films and Crouching Tiger. The film releases today (January 23).
