New Delhi, April 23 -- India's first ever 3D dance film, ABCD (2013), set a trend when it recorded healthy numbers at the box office after its release.
The film, directed by Remo D'Souza, still garners huge viewership every time it's aired on TV. The flick has now spawned a franchise with the next installment, produced by Disney India, starring actors Varun Dhawan, Prabhudheva and Shraddha Kapoor.
Shot at locales like Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon in the US, the film is based on the real life struggle of two Mumbai based choreographers.
"Globally, Disney has created some of the biggest franchises, and we are excited to be developing our first truly local franchise with dance at its core," says Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director, Disney India.
D'Souza, who has also directed the sequel, says, "It feels amazing to see how ABCD has grown from strength to strength, and now the sequel, ABCD 2 is being hugely anticipated."
Extending the ABCD experience beyond the big screen, Disney India will launch ABCD branded merchandise ranging across apparel and accessories, as well as develop an engaging mobile game inspired by the movie.
Also, Disney India's youth channel - Bindass, will air a dance series around the film. "With ABCD, we are creating a franchise which is tailored to provide its fans a unique multi-platform experience," says Kapur.
