Let's come to the point straight away. When you've films like LAGAAN, SWADES and JODHAA AKBAR to your credit, every step you take, every move you make comes under a microscopic view. Naturally then, the expectations from Ashutosh Gowariker's WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? are monumental.

Subhash K. Jha on Wanted: 'Wanted' only for Salman Khan fans
Though National Award-winner Prakash Raj's flamboyant villainy and Ayesha Takia's endearing cuteness miraculously find a place in the plot, this is the hero's vehicle like very few masala movies in recent times.

Subhash K. Jha on 'Dil Bole Hadippa!'
Somewhere down the line in this mish-mash of "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", "Chak De" and what have you, Shahid Kapoor, looking as intense as a man who has just discovered he has acute molar ache, scowls at Rani and says, "You should be an actress in films".

Movie Review: Dil Bole Hadippa!
Cricket, like Bollywood, is an addiction for a wide majority of Indians. DIL BOLE HADIPPA tries to capture the spirit of the game and the aspirations of a sportsperson, who's keen to play for her pind. On paper, the concept, which bears an uncanny resemblance to SHE'S THE MAN, sounds interesting, but the problem is its writing, which is tame and mediocre.

Times have changed, but certain film-makers are still stuck up in the era gone by and that reflects in their cinema. That's what you realise when you watch RUSLAAN.

Movie Review: Aamras
Recall those years when you were growing up. When you were in your teens. When you just stepped out of school. When you were learning to take independent decisions. When you were waiting to explore a whole new world... The images may be blur, but the flashes from the past should bring a smile on your face.

Vaada Raha... I Promise
Samir Karnik completes his trilogy. NANHE JAISALMER was about dreams, HEROES was about pride and VAADA RAHA is about hope. The commonality in all three films, besides Bobby Deol and child star Dwij Yadav, is the emotional quotient.

Movie Review: Baabarr
Gangster movies - this genre has been done to death. Films like PARINDA [Vidhu Vinod Chopra] and SATYA [Ramgopal Varma] stand tall on this list. But, of late, the genre has taken a backseat since people aren't too keen on watching bloodshed and the same old saga of an innocent taking to the world of crime.

Making a suspense thriller is tough. To keep the audience attentive, besides keeping the viewer guessing till the end, requires complete understanding of the craft.

Movie Review: Mohan Das - A Man Lost In His Own Nation
Browse a newspaper or surf news channels and I am sure, you'd be enlightened with more than a hundred stories in the course of a day. But not all stories have the potential to be adapted for the big screen. MOHANDAS suffers due to this reason.

Movie Review: Aagey Se Right
Till a few years ago, if a director or writer would tell you that the object of attention in his story is a pistol and how the entire film would revolve around it, you'd laugh, even scoff at, on his face. Is he out of his mind? But times have changed. Wacky concepts are the order of the day. Last week, QUICK GUN MURUGUN depicted one. This Friday, it's AAGEY SE RIGHT.

Movie Review: Chintu Ji
Sometimes, big things come in small packages. The expectations from CHINTUJI are zilch. Even the pre-release promotion is extremely low-key. Also, the awareness is as good as nil. But CHINTUJI springs a pleasant surprise. It packs in a solid punch in those 2 hours.
