Movie Titles: You decide!

By Hindustan Times

New Delhi, July 11 -- Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are increasingly favour among filmmakers as tools to to seek advice from the audience. A couple of months ago, Anupam Kher asked his followers on Twitter to suggest a title for his next film. The latest filmmaker to join the league is Sudhir Mishra, who has posted a clip of his Irrfan Khan-Chitrangada Singh starrer on Facebook, asking viewers to choose a title between Dil Dar-ba-Dar and Yeh Saali Zindagi.

In two minds

Interestingly, the director of acclaimed films such as Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi (2003) and Chameli (2003), had started his next film, tentatively titled, Dil Dar-ba-Dar. However, during the edit, his team felt Yeh Saali Zindagi was a more apt title, says a source, adding that the film is primarily a love story with parallel tracks between Irrfan Khan, Chitrangada Singh, Arunoday Singh and Aditi Rao.

Confirming the same, Mishra, who was 'genuinely confused' says, "Both these titles also represent songs in the movie. I decided to release a clip from it online to give an idea of the film's content and style, and ask my friends for their advice on the apt title." Apart from him, his assistants have also added the link to their profiles.

Mass appeal

Mishra, who is glad to reach out to 20,000 people, says, "It's not merely a title. I find the interaction interesting because these are people you don't normally talk to. The anonymity ensures that people speak without any bias."

However, it's not the numbers that will help him decide between the two titles. "It all depends on the argument for a particular title. The most convincing reason and not the number of votes will be the deciding factor," he asserts. Mishra says he'll finalise the title of his romantic thriller by the end of the week. He plans to release the film in early October.
