Mumbai, May 24 -- For four years, Shimit Amin, who last directed Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Rocket Singh: Salesman of The Year (2009), hasn't worked on a new film. But now, the trade circuit is abuzz with news that the Chak De India (2007) director will be back with a new project that is being co-produced by Yash Raj Films and filmmaker Mira Nair.
"Right now, no one will confirm working on the project since everything is at a nascent stage. Let's see if everything works out between Nair and Yash Raj considering the production house generally doesn't go in for many co-productions," says a trade insider. As for Shimit's project, the film is believed to be very commercial yet unique.
A few weeks ago, Nair had stated that she's not really interested in having a big production company and producing other people's films. "But I do hope to produce Shimit Amin's film. He will be directing next year," said Nair, known for her internationally-acclaimed films. Shimit also worked with Nair on her latest release, The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Despite such rumours, YRF's spokesperson told us, "This (the co-production) is not true" and Shimit couldn't be reached for comment either. As for his next directorial venture, the director is likely to finalise all the details including the cast and script by the year-end.
