Mumbai, April 2 -- Director Milan Luthria, who is shooting the last leg of the sequel to his 2010 hit Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, has revealed that he and producer Ekta Kapoor have agreed on releasing the film on Eid this year.
"We took the decision because we felt that the film is about characters that come from a Muslim cultural background. Now all eyes are on releasing it on Eid, which falls on August 8. The Eid weekend is usually a very good time for releases, followed by the August 15 weekend," says Milan.
The makers might have chosen a lucrative time for the film to hit theatres, but it will face tough competition from two mega-budget films - Shah Rukh Khanstarrer Chennai Express and the Deols' Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 - which release on the same day. However, Milan says this doesn't bother him. "Now that two other films are releasing on the same day, all the tamasha will begin. I feel that there is always competition. In fact, it makes me work harder. By now, my style of filmmaking has found a connection with people," says The Dirty Picture (2011) director.
While the original Once Upon... starred Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut, this instalment of the franchise will feature a new cast, comprising Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. "The film has brought back heroism on screen and I've managed to present a good script and great performances. I am sure that the fans of all the actors will be excited to see them in a new light," Luthria says.
