Meet the newcomers of Summer 2008

By Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Hungama News Network

In spite of the fact that 2008 has been more or less miserable with the biggest of the films failing to do any wonders at the box office, there is still some hope ahead. Apart from many biggies which would be unleashed on the silver screen in months to follow, there would also be a large number of films where newcomers would be looking forward to making an impression.

Jannat - Sonal Chauhan

With Jannat, Bhatts launch yet another newcomer in the form of Sonal Chauhan. A former Miss India contestant who is an established fashion model and has appeared in a number of advertisement campaigns in print and electronic media, Sonal is a Delhi girl. She would be sharing screen space with Emraan Hashmi against whom Tanushree Dutta, Geeta Basra and Kangana Ranaut have earlier been launched.

Hastey Hastey - Nisha Rawal, Monishka

The girl who feels that 'sex is an attitude', Nisha Rawal would now be enacting the role of a bubbly and full of life New York girl in Hastey Hastey. While her co-star in the film is Jimmy Sheirgill, she has earlier been seen with Sonu Nigam in the music video of Chanda Ki Doli and Lucky Ali in Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai. Monishka is another newcomer who promises to make her presence felt with her 'hot girl' potrayal in the film.

Woodstock Villa - Neha Uberoi, Sikandar Kher

Technically, Neha Oberoi has already made her made her big screen debut with Dus Kahaniyaan last year. However, her first full fledged appearance would be for Woodstock Villa where her role is said to be carrying shades of gray. Sanjay Gupta's niece, who has Sikandar Kher as her co-star in the film, Neha has been uninhibited in front of the camera, what with her sizzling act in the song 'Dhokha' raising quite a few eyebrows.

Sikandar Kher is another star son who makes his debut with this film. Son of super-talented actors Anupam and Kirron Kher, Sikandar has assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Devdas before he took the plunge into acting with Woodstock Villa. Surely, expectations are high from this young man.

Aamir - Rajeev Khandelwal

For any TV buff, the name Rajeev Khandelwal comes naturally. Choosy to the core, he opted for making his debut with an offbeat thriller Aamir rather than taking a conventional lover boy approach. With nothing less than UTV backing his debut project, Rajeev has managed to arouse some curiosity amongst audience who would be keenly observing his big screen transition.

Humsey Hai Jahaan - Mashhoor Amrohi, Vishakha Singh

Earlier titled Hum Laakh Chupayen Pyaar Magar, Humsey Hai Jahaan takes the legacy of Amrohis further. Mashoor Amrohi, grandson of the legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, is making his Bollywood debut in the triple role of a writer, director and actor in Humsey Hai Jahaan which has been ready for more than a year. Vishakha Singh also makes her Bollywood foray as a leading lady in the film.

Khushboo - Rishi Rehan, Avantikka

They may not be getting a launch a la Ranbir Kapoor or Sonam Kapoor but Rishi Rehan and Avantikka would be looking at Pahlaj Nihalani, maker of Khushboo, to give them a decent enough launch. Though none of the too have been seen much, either on the modeling circuits or pre-release events, Rishi and Avantikka would be praying that audience laps up the 'khushboo' of love they are planning to spread through their film.

Summer 2007 - Uvika Chaudhary

Uvika made heads turn with her 'talented actress' act in Om Shanti Om (she played Shah Rukh Khan's reel life heroine in the film). Though she has been active in the world of advertisement for quite some time, Summer 2007 would be her first big film. The film being ready for quite some time, Uvika would be hoping that Summer 2007, which has an ensemble cast of Sikandar Kher, Gul Panag, Arjan Bajwa and Divya Dutta, doesn't go unnoticed.

Haal E Dil - Amita Pathak, Nakuul Mehta, Adhyayan Suman

Kumar Mangat launches his daughter Amita Pathak with Haal E Dil which also sees two new male leads looking at their first ever big screen foray. They are Nakuul Mehta and Adhyayan Suman (who is Shekhar Suman's son). While Nakuul has already done some good work on stage along with TV commercials, Amita has learnt different forms to dancing to help her prepare for the role.

A 2005 Miss India contestant, Kaveri Jha has appeared in several commercials and has also co-hosted a TV show with Sajid Khan. Though she has already kick started her film career down south, it would be Hijack that would be marking her first ever big screen appearance. She is paired opposite Shiney Ahuja in this Kunal Shivdasani film which also stars Esha Deol.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - Imraan Khan

Imraan Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan, would soon be seen on the big screen with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa. Though delayed by a few months, his debut launch vehicle would finally pick on speed as it is all set for a July 2008 release. A co-production of Aamir Khan Productions and PVR Cinema, the film promises to add on to the fun filled youth entertainers with Imraan expected to take the Khan lineage forward.

Love Story 2050 - Harman Baweja

If the first look of Love Story 2050 is any indication, Papa Harry Baweja certainly seems to be on just the right path to make this happen for beta Harman. Love Story 2050 is just different and makes a viewer witness something on the big screen which has never been made before in Indian cinema. To top it all, the handsome young man appears to be quite confident about his screen presence and does well in making sure that his 'love story' doesn't miss audience's attention.

1920 - Rajneesh Duggal, Adah Sharmam

Directed by Vikram Bhatt, 1920, a period film belonging to horror genre, acts as a launch pad for Mr. India 2003 and 1st runner-up Mr. International Rajneesh Duggal and Adah. Produced by Bhatt as well, the film is a work of fiction set in the year 1920 and traces the love story of an Indian boy and an English girl.
