Mumbai, Feb. 15 -- Actor Katrina Kaif was in Havana, Cuba, working on some action scenes with co-star Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan for Ek Tha Tiger, last week. Back home, news spread that fellow actor Deepika Padukone had been chosen over her for Rajinikanth's upcoming venture, Kochadaiyaan, supposedly a prequel to Rana, which has been put on the backburner.
The film's first look, with the south superstar playing a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva, was revealed, roughly a month late, on Tuesday. Apparently, when Katrina was first contacted for Soundarya Ashwin's film, she took close to 20 days to rework her entire schedule to accommodate the project, as she was keen to work with Rajni. Apart from Ek Tha Tiger, the actor has also set aside dates for a long schedule in London for Yash Chopra's untitled Diwali release opposite Shah Rukh Khan starting sometime from next month.
"Rajnikanth sir's daughter Soundarya was in touch with me. But given my schedule for the next 10 months, we were unfortunately not able to coordinate dates with their technicians, who are being flown in from different parts of the world. The film is highly technical. You will understand when you watch it," says Katrina, who has recently shot a new set of commercials for Mango Slice. "I can just wish Soundarya, Rajinikanth sir and their team all the best," adds the actor, without commenting on Deepika's last minute entry into the cast. Kochadaiyaan, meanwhile, is being touted as the first Indian 3D motioncapture film.
The technology has previously been seen in films like Avatar (2009) and The Adventures Of Tintin (2011). And this was not going to be Katrina's first outing down south. Previously, the actor has worked in two Telugu movies -Malliswari (2004, with Venkatesh) and Allari Pidugu (2005, with Balakrishna) and one Malayalam film, Balram Vs Tharadas (2006, with Mammooty).
She may have missed out on the chance to work with Rajni this time, but Katrina hasn't given up hope of doing a film with her favourite south star. "Of course, it's not the end of the road. Rajinikanth sir and I will work together in the near future on something else, for sure. Fingers crossed!" beams the busy actor, talking from Cuba. She will start shooting for Dhoom 3 in the second half of the year with Aamir Khan, followed by the Dostana sequel with John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan closer to the end of 2012.
