Jodi no 1, Act ii
By Hindustan Times
Mumbai, Dec. 17 -- Over the last few months, there've been plenty of rumours about the Dostana sequel having been shelved. A couple of days ago, it was reported that director Taran Mansukhani had demanded a share in the profits and producer, Karan Johar, had scrapped the project.
Within hours of the article appearing, Karan tweeted, "Dostana 2 is definitely starting next year...Script is locked...Abhishek (Bachchan) and John (Abraham) are ready!!! The boys are back!! Tarun (director Tarun Mansukhani) is all set...." A few weeks earlier, John had asserted that Dostana 2 should take off next year.
"Karan had problems with the second half so Tarun's been working on it. The film is as important to Abhishek and me as it is to Karan and Tarun." Quizzed on the issue of dates and if their nonavailability could see him exiting the long-anticipated sequel, he retorted, "Karan is not just a producer, he's been one of my biggest support systems in the industry. I'll go out of my way to give time to his film. Dostana has given me so much, there's no way I won't be a part of Part 2."
Abhishek endorsed that, "Tarun has been working on the script, he knows John and I are a phone call away." Apparently, the new Dostana is set in London and besides John and Abhishek has two other actors wooing Katrina Kaif. Buzz is that Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhay Deol and Dino Morea were approached for the two other roles, but uncomfortable with the homosexual overtones, turned down the offer.
Abhishek doubts the rumours are true, "Tarun is now a part of a 'success' group, and with Dharma backing him, I'm sure anyone would jump on to the franchise. On my part, I'd like to believe that Sam and Kunal are the Dostana Males." Part One bagged John and him the 'Best Jodi' Award and supposedly made them a "hit' with the LGBT community for.
Says Abhishek, "No one thanked me for making the film but if it is true, it's great news. For me Dostana was a comic story with a twist and one that I'd like to take forward." Come 2012, and the 'jodi' will be back on screen after four years because as Karan says "there can be no Dostana without the boys".
