Jacqueline Fernandes: When in Rome!

Mumbai, May 28 -- Like most of actors, Jacqueline Fernandes's travels are related to work. However, the Sri Lankan beauty says that she loves to take her parents on holiday with her.

"I am busy working throughout the year, so I try and make time for my parents when we go on holidays. I travel a lot during my shoots, but going with my family is the most relaxing time for me," she says.

"My most memorable trip was to Europe. It was my second trip to the continent, but it still amazes me. We went to Paris, as it was always a childhood fantasy to visit it. I had heard so much about the city from my parents. I was excited when I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time and then again at night. Paris is the most romantic place I've ever seen; it's chic, full of history and their language is like poetry," says Jacqueline.

The actor says that her parents always wanted to see Vatican City and Rome, and so the Fernandez family made a visit. "It is so beautiful. There was so much to see there. We visited the Colosseum in Rome and the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. We saw all the churches and it was the most amazing spiritual experience for me. Rome also has the St Peter's Basilica, Michelangelo's paintings and a wishing fountain, the Fontana di Trevi. This entire place is steeped in Roman history. We also went for the Sunday morning mass at the St Maria Church in Trastevere," adds the former Miss Sri Lanka. Jacqueline says that she loves sightseeing, visiting parks and cafes and shopping for trinkets. "It is very relaxing. I love walking on the streets. From Rome, I bought a beautiful bowl to keep holy water in and a rosary. I've bought paintings, especially of Mother Mary, as I look up to her. I also shop for clothes and do a lot of boutique shopping when I am in Europe," she adds. Being an adrenaline junkie, Jacqueline loves to indulge in water sports.

"What I love doing on my holidays is to go deep-sea diving. I went scuba diving in Spain too. I also enjoyed midnight safaris in the Amazon," she says. The actor also claims to be a big foodie and loves experimenting with new cuisine. "I will never eat something which I get at home, so I always try something new. What better way to do that than eating at local restaurants? I've tried a local Roman pasta dish made with peppers and cheese and, of course, lots of pizzas," she says.
