Mumbai, June 10 -- Taking a break after her much-talked-about trip to Cannes, Vidya Balan is refreshed and rearing to go. Instead of worrying about what the fashion police had to say about her appearances at the popular international festival, the actor wants to focus on her upcoming projects and enjoy playing the many versatile roles offered to her.

You seem to be the go-to girl for character roles in Bollywood.

I became an actor so that I could live different people's lives on screen. When Raj Kumar offered Ghanchakkar, he said the character is a loud, sometimes even crude Punjabi woman. The character's outlandish and bizarre. She is confident about herself, which I think all women should be. After The Dirty Picture's (TDP) in your face role, it took some amount of convincing. He even emotionally blackmailed me. I always wanted to do a comedy like this, and not the slapstick variety. However, you can never say never.

What kind of connect do you have with Emraan Hashmi post TDP?

He's so easy, unassuming and selfassured. It's great to meet such people. He enjoys the process and works like a maniac. He's obsessed with his phone and plays games all the time. Post TDP, Emraan really opened up, especially during promotions. If we do one more film, he'll outdo me in the talking department. (laughs)

Your brother-in-laws Aditya and Kunal Roy Kapur rave about you. Have you seen their recent films?

Knowing them in the past few years that Sidharth and I've been together, I can say they are guileless. I've gained a family in marriage, as they are easy people to be around. I loved Aashiqui 2 and was bawling by the end because Aditya was so good. I'm glad he was patient and didn't get angsty to pick just any film. Kunal's a fabulous actor and I hope there are more parts which exploit his true talent. He has no inhibitions and is a shameless actor, which I mean as a compliment. I was surprised to see his 'Oo la la' (song from TDP) act in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, where he gave in completely to the moment.

How did you feel about your outfits being scrutinised at Cannes?

I don't mean to sound disrespectful to anyone or immodest but I walked out of the festival feeling good. I was at Cannes for the first time and directly as part of the jury, with the best from world cinema. For me, that was the biggest high.
