After working with him in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM), Imran Khan has become a fan of Pankaj Kapur. The actor says he has learnt a lot about performances “just by observing” Pankaj on the sets of Vishal Bhardwaj’s film. “He comes from a theatre background. When he performs, it looks so real,” says Imran, adding, “One of the reasons I took up the film was because of him. Since I share an equation with Shahid (Kapoor), working with his dad was great.”
And now, Imran wants to share screen space with another veteran actor, whose work too, he greatly admires. “After working with Pankaj sir, I want to work with Ranbir’s (Kapoor) dad — Rishi Kapoor. They are great actors, and for me, such opportunities are great learning experiences,” he says.
Meanwhile, the industry is abuzz with talks of Imran’s role in MKBKM being an image-changer for him. Ask him about this and he says, “I have done the film because as an actor, I wanted to do something new. Vishal is one of the most liberal directors I’ve worked with and he gives you complete freedom. Once he’s confident that you’ve absorbed your role well, he leaves it to you and that’s something that helped me a lot. I don’t know how the film will do at the box-office, but I can only say that I have done this film with belief.”
