"I don't mind Hijack being pushed by a week" - Kunal Shivdasani
| By Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Hungama News Network Kunal Shivdasani has decided to wait for one more week to bring his Hijack to the theaters. Quite a patient act for a man who has been waiting for almost 4 months to showcase his debut venture to the rest of the world. Those who have followed the progress of Hijack may remember that the film was earlier slated to arrive in the month of May. IPL struck hard during that month and while majority of movies decided to wait due to cricket mania being at an all time high, the months of June and July saw an entire backlog of films coming down heavily at theaters. Due to its big canvas, a decision was taken to bring Hijack in the month of August but presence of Singh Is Kinng and Bachna Ae Haseeno meant that the film had to come towards the end of August. Meanwhile, Kunal decided to polish the climax of his film and take it to a different level. Now that the month of August is coming to a close, he doesn't mind postponing it by one more week and has penciled in 5th September as the D-Day. "We wanted good screens and number of shows for Hijack. There was no point giving it a scant release since Hijack is a big film which deserves wider audience", says Kunal in a matter of fact tone, "Due to September seeing 'shraddh' period, majority of films are making a beeline to arrive in August itself. Good for them. However, I don't see any reason why Hijack should come in a week with 4-5 other films. Just last week there were 4 movies - Phoonk, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam and My Friend Ganesha 2. This weekend we again have four movies arriving - C Kkompany, Chamku, Rock On and perhaps Mukhbiir. Sorry, but I am in love with my film. I would rather bring it on when it stands up on its own rather than be a face in the crowd. Even if that means that we all would have to wait for a week longer." But doesn't it get frustrating? "Nahi, not at all. After all I have nurtured this film and ensured that each and every frame carries the kind of finesse as we see in Hollywood films. This is an action film with quite some grandeur to boast of. What difference does a few days make?", questions Kunal. Divulging his plans for the film, Kunal explains, "In fact Hijack coming on 5th September only works in the advantage of the film as we are getting further aggressive on the promotion of the film. The film raises the bar when it comes to a plot driven narrative, something that we are yet to perfect in Bollywood. We want more and more people to be aware about the Hijack angle before they step into the theaters. This is why we haven't digressed on different tangents in the publicity of the film and centered our promotion on an aircraft being hijacked and Shiney being their savior. Believe me, people will have an altogether different perception about him once they see the film." |
