Maleficent surpassed the $500 million milestone marking Angelina Jolie's highest-grossing live-action film of all time over the weekend.
Maleficent explores the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the classic Sleeping Beauty and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. The film has been directed by Robert Stomberg.
The Disney fairy tale earned $335.6 million internationally and $521.6 million on worldwide box office, passing the company's live-action film Oz the Great and Powerful, which had grossed $493.3 million worldwide.
At the international level, the film earned its best in Mexico with $40.4 million, Russia with $34.8 million, $25.7 million in the U.K. and $24.2 dollars million in Brazil, and the movie is yet to hit the theatres in Japan.
The 39-year-old beauty's previous best was Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005, which had claimed 478.2 million dollars.
