Hero, Karma to get Southern makeover!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, Oct. 16 -- Twenty nine years after he made a smashing debut in Subhash Ghai's Hero, Jackie Shroff's hit film is set to re-enter cinema halls again - albeit in a new avatar.

We have learned from reliable sources that Ghai's Muka Arts is currently negotiating with a number of leading south Indian producers to get films like Karz (1980), Karma (1986), Aitraaz (2004), and Hero remade in Tamil and Telugu. "It's true that Subhashji is in the final stages of talks about these remakes. He is in no hurry, considering all four films are very close to his heart. And he wants only the best makers to bag the rights. His company will be part of these productions and it could mark the company's first foray into south Indian cinema," says an insider, adding, "The storylines of all four films are still very interesting and relevant."

While the production house is keeping other details under wraps, we have learned that the price for some films would be extremely competitive. "If all goes well, the remakes would hit the floors by mid-2013. Subhashji is excited about it. But he wants to talk about it only after everything is finalised," adds the source.

Probably that's why, when contacted, Ghai said, "Yes, we are in talks for the remakes of our films, but it's too soon to give out any details."
