New Delhi, Nov. 2 -- Eight years after her last television venture, Hema Malini will return to the small screen after Diwali. The veteran actor-producer-director, who has made five shows - three in Hindi (Nupur, Women Of India, Aap Ki Saheli) and two in Marathi (Songti and Umberta) - is currently making Maati Ki Banno for Colors.

Based in central India, the show revolves around a mother and her son, faced with adverse circumstances. Via Roy Choudhury and Manoj Chandila of Laado fame essay the main roles in the serial, being directed by Shyam Maheshwari. A source close to the production team reveals that the show, under the banner, Hema Malini Media & Entertainment, is slated to go on air later this November.

"The shooting started with a 10-day spell in Mauritius. Currently, the shooting is on in a studio in suburban Mumbai," says our source. Apparently, it didn't take long for the channel to give a nod to Malini. In fact, things between the channel and the producer were finalised in the first meeting.

Malini is also wrapping up the film, Tell Me O Khuda, featuring daughter Esha Deol and actors Arjan Bajwa, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. The film, which will release early next year, also has Dharmendra in an important role.

While Malini was unavailable for comment, those close to the actor are also keeping mum on the matter. Ashwini Yardi, the programming head of the channel, did not revert to messages regarding the show.
