Mumbai, June 22 -- Amid strong protest from late filmmaker actor Guru Dutt's family on making a biopic on him, the makers - director Bhawna Talwar and her husband Sheetal Talwar - have decided to go ahead with the preparations for the pre-production stage of the film.
The duo recently met officials from the music label Saregama, to talk about acquiring rights to the legendary actors' film songs.
When contacted Adarsh Gupta, senior vice-president - music, Saregama, confirms the development and says, "At this time only a preliminary discussion took place about how they are making the film and want rights to the music. We will decide on the songs at a later stage."
An industry source also reveals that the makers are set to go to Kolkata for a recce soon. "Guru Dutt has a strong Kolkata connect and shot major portions of his films like Pyaasa (1957) and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962) there. The makers are trying to shoot in some places like Shobhabazar and Rajbari, where Dutt had shot Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam," says the source.
The makers are apparently also trying to film his house in north Kolkata. "They are looking forward to exploring Dutt's connection with Kolkata. They are ready with the script but are yet to decide on the cast," says the source. Despite repeated attempts, Bhawna remained unavailable comment.
