New Delhi, May 16 -- Bollywood and desi glam is big at the Cannes Film Festival this year. And now, we have a golden dose of Indian fashion taking over the French Riviera too.

Veteran designer Tarun Tahiliani is going to be a part of a charity fashion show at the amfAR Gala at the fest, which is scheduled to be held on May 23. He is the first Indian fashion designer to bag the opportunity.

"I am flattered and thrilled to be a part of the event," Tahiliani exclaimed as he gave us an idea about what he was going to showcase on the ramp. "As the theme is gold this year, I have incorporated that in my way in the designs. There is a one-piece drape that I have created, which is inspired by the sari, but is actually a gown. I have a male outfit too, which is inspired by gypsy fashion," reveals Tahiliani, who will also be designing a piece of gold jewellery in keeping with the theme, which in turn is inspired by the Cleopatra-look of the gala's late co-founder and veteran glam icon, Elizabeth Taylor.

With 100 years of Indian cinema being celebrated at Cannes too, Tahiliani tells us that his inspiration was also a Bollywood screen siren, known for her distinctive style. "I had in mind the golds of Rekha while designing the pieces," he says, adding, "My whole idea was to do something contemporary, so as to showcase Indian designs, rather than going for something which looks more like a costume." The show will see Tahiliani present his designs alongside fashion biggies like Burberry, Alexander Wang, Christian Dior, Gucci, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton.

Italian fashion heavyweight Roberto Cavalli will be doing the decor for the gala dinner. The gala is known for championing the cause of HIV awareness and was started in 1985.

Although, this is only the second time that the fashion show is being included at the event.
