Ferrari, the luxury Italian sports carmaker, has apparently requested Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s production house for a screening of his film ahead of its June 15 release date.
“Since Ferrari is a premium car brand, they don’t want to take any chances with the way it has been depicted in the film. If their brand has been shown in a bad light, they won’t hesitate to take action against the producers. In fact, they have already raised the issue (with Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and have asked him to show them the film before its release,” says a production insider.
Chopra, however, seems confident that his film won’t upset anyone since it’s a fun venture. “He has already shown the film to some of his close friends and everyone seems to have loved it. The feedback has been extremely positive, so he isn’t worried about any trouble from the carmakers,” says the insider.
Sameer Rao, CEO of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films, confirmed the news: “We have been asked to show the film (to Ferrari),” he says, but refuses to comment beyond that. The logistics of the screening are expected to be worked out over the next two days.
Interestingly, on Monday night, Nita Ambani hosted a special screening of the film for the other icon indirectly related to the film — Sachin Tendulkar — along with members of her family at Antilla.
Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar (who previously assisted Rajkumar Hirani on films like Munnabhai and 3 Idiots), Ferrari Ki Sawari stars Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and child actor Ritvik Sahore.
