Dear Shah Rukh,
"Everything will be okay in the end...if it's not okay, it's not the end." Sounds like something out of Om Shanti Om, right? "Picture abhi baaki hai, haan?" Isn't that always true? I think so....Everything isn't perfect right now...and that's how I know that it's not the end. This will be just another year of me wishing you a Happy Birthday on Nov 2nd as I cut my own cake. Yes, you presumed right - we share the same birthday. Skeptical?

I've met you twice now, but I don't believe you remember. Heck, I don't even remember the first time that well anymore because I was just 4 years old! I used to live in Delhi back then...so did you, and you were eating paan at a roadside thela outside Gulati's restaurant. We all recognized you as "Buddy" from Fauji...but we never made it to the paan stand to congratulate you on your fantastic acting, and for keeping that show alive.
Fast forward 17 years, and we met again...this time at your Temptations concert. The girl next to me ended up getting to meet you, but having shelled out $200 for my seat, I still considered myself close enough to meet you:). So that's it, you wonder...2 random encounters, and why would you care?
Because we we're soul-mates. Not the romantic type, but the other type, you know.... I was in awe of everything in that small office at your old Red Chiles Production building this past June. I interviewed Farah for an hour...and even got to sit in your chair while I was being stared at by a more-than-human size bust of you from across the shelf! Now as I look back...I wish that I had shipped that chair back with me to America... it would have had a better fate than the trash disposal! Farah was great, and I asked her if I could get to meet you, and she responded "Ya, Runjhun...if only you were here in July when he gets back from vacation, we could have all gone out, darling!" There it was - time was not on my side...once again. I had to go back to medical school, and you had to come back to India 1 day after I left.
But you see...it's okay because picture to chal rahi hai. I know, that somehow, someway, I'm going to celebrate my birthday with you...because that's how it's supposed to be. People who share the same birthday often share a lot more than the date on hand. Well, OSO releases in a week...and I wish you nothing but success for it. With all the hype around it, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that it'll be one of the biggest blockbusters of the decade...here's hoping! Tell Farah I said hi and all the best wishes for the movie as well for her triplets on the way! I'll be back in Bombay soon enough, and then who knows, I might just have to take Farah up on her offer and make my dream of 22 years of finally meeting you come true!
