EMAET is urban Jab We Met: Imran Khan

By Hindustan Times

Remember Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met? In 2007, the Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor starrer went on to become a blockbuster. Now, around five years later, Imran Khan feels his upcoming Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is very similar to the hit rom-com.

Jab We Met traced the journey of two people, Geet (Kareena Kapoor) and Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) from completely different worlds, who meet by accident and end up changing each other’s lives forever. In Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Rahul (Imran) suddenly loses his job. Then, he meets Riana (Kareena) and following a night of debauchery, arguments and laughter, they strike up an unlikely friendship and eventually fall in love.

And although the setting of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is urban (it’s based in Las Vegas and Mumbai) as opposed to Jab We Met’s locales created in Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, the two are similar in spirit.

“Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is an urban Jab We Met. According to me, the journey and relationship graphs of both films are almost identical. In fact, if we were to look at the two movies only in spirit, then our film is almost a sequel, or a younger version set in an urban milieu,” says Imran.

He adds that Riana is almost an ‘urban Geet’ from Jab We Met. The actor divulges that Bebo plays a free-spirited, bubbly go-getter. “Riana changes everyone that she touches in life. To be honest, Geet, Kareena’s character in Jab We Met, has become iconic and was almost a turning point in her career. Her character Riana will do the same with an urban audience,” says the Delhi Belly actor.
